Operations Engineer (m/f/d) for our laboratory infrastructure at the Ulm Innovation Centre

You will drive forward the construction, refurbishment, further development, operation and maintenance of the laboratory infrastructure at the Ulm Innovation Centre of the DLR Quantum Computing Initiative (DLR QCI). You will act as the link between Facility Management on the one hand and the Innovation Centre’s management on the other.

3 questions for Alain Pierrot, Manager of the Hamburg Innovation Centre

What does an operations engineer do at DLR QCI?
Operations engineers act as a link: on the one hand, they work to meet the requirements of the start-ups that are developing quantum computers here with us. On the other hand, they also look after the infrastructure, which forms the backbone of research and innovation.

What does this mean in practice?
The focus is on our laboratories, where the research takes place. The remit covers a broad spectrum of activities, including both minor and major laboratory refurbishments. In this way, they gain first-hand experience of how state-of-the-art hardware is developed and operated. At the same time, they assess: What infrastructure is required? What needs to be adapted or further developed? Furthermore, as DLR QCI, we operate our own quantum computers in the innovation centres, the laboratory set-up for which can be quite complex. The operations engineers are involved in the maintenance of this hardware.

What makes this role particularly exciting?
Being part ofa team that develops innovative, world-leading technologies! The tasks are both organisational and technical in nature. This makes them at least as varied as the working environment itself.
