Innovation Center Hamburg
A unique ecosystem for the industrialisation of quantum computing
Our innovation centres bring together research, industry and start-ups to jointly build novel quantum computers and develop suitable use cases. The construction of quantum computers in particular requires a high level of resources, which is beyond the capabilities of many start-ups. This is why DLR QCI provides the necessary technical infrastructure in the innovation centres: laser laboratories for building quantum computers, a clean room for developing our own microfabricated quantum chips, laboratories for assembly and connection technology, for example to connect quantum chips with their control units, and special workshops for chip production.
In Hamburg, we offer our start-ups and companies a world-class technical infrastructure: a 300 m² cleanroom laboratory, 130 m² of which is ISO 5 cleanroom class, a 150 mm production facility for the development and production of ion traps from the substrate to the finished module. Extensive analysis and characterisation methods at the highest scientific level (including SEM/FIB/EDX, cryogenic probe station, electrical measurement technology) and support and advice from the experienced team in the QT-IMN department on all issues relating to microsystems technology, miniaturisation/scaling and the integration of processes and technologies.
