Turning light particles into computing components: This is considered a promising possibility for building a quantum computer.
In an important step towards realisation, QuiX Quantum has provided us with the first photonic processor and demonstrated one- and two-qubit gates on it. This processor – Belenos – is a 12×12-mode system based on a photonic quantum chip in silicon nitride developed by QuiX.
The first application has already been determined: over the next few months, the photonic processor at the DLR Institute of Optical Sensor Systems will contribute to researching and improving photon sources for quantum processors and other applications.
This first handover is the first of four prototypes that QuiX Quantum is developing as part of the quantum computing initiative. The project goal is an error-correctable universal photonic quantum computer.
