The Ulm-based quantum technology company NVision Quantum has published a major scientific breakthrough in the journal Nature. As part of the DLR QCI project COMIQC , they have succeeded in specifically addressing a single organic molecule as a qubit and controlling it coherently. They were also able to demonstrate an optical interface with light. NVision is thus paving the way for a new approach to the development of scalable quantum computers.
We commissioned a quantum computer based on this unusual, organic approach back in 2023 as part of the COMIQC project. The promise: organic molecular crystals = robust, miniaturisable, scalable. It is a technology with great potential that has received little attention in quantum computing to date.
Together, through COMIQC, we are thus providing a further impetus for technological diversity and competition in Germany: The research paper now published in Nature demonstrates the potential inherent in new technological approaches and why it is worthwhile to provide deep-tech companies with early access to development opportunities, infrastructure and a pathway from research to industrial implementation.
