3 Questions for Annika Zimmermann, Strategic Project Manager

What do Operational Project Managers do?
At its core, the role involves working at the intersection of industry, start-ups, and research, with the aim of advancing the development of practical quantum computing use cases. Operational Project Managers are responsible for implementing our application projects. They serve as the direct point of contact for our industry and start-up partners and are responsible for managing the associated contracts and projects from the client’s perspective. Another key aspect of our projects is quantum computing benchmarking – from applications all the way down to the hardware level.

What does a typical working day actually look like?
It’s very diverse. It’s project management in all its facets: evaluating and accepting milestones and deliverables, monitoring project progress and success, and, above all, communicating extensively with everyone involved in the projects and with our partners. Building on the expertise gained from our application projects, it is also important to keep track of technological trends and identify areas of focus for future activities. The combination of organizational responsibilities and close involvement in technological developments is what makes this role particularly exciting.

Why join the DLR QCI?
Quite simply, because we operate in a dynamic environment where we have the opportunity to play a key role in shaping the quantum computing applications of tomorrow and the ecosystem around them.
