On 19 November 2026, interested parties from academia and industry will have the opportunity to expand their expertise on the potential of quantum processors for reinforcement learning: the workshop of the same name, ‘Quantum Processors for Reinforcement Learning’, will take place at the DLR Institute of Quantum Technologies in Ulm and online. The morning talks will be delivered in a hybrid format; however, it is well worth travelling to Ulm for the poster session and informal discussions in the afternoon.
The workshop will present the latest results from the DLR-QCI project QLearning. In addition to the presentation of current findings, there will be demonstrations of hybrid and quantum-assisted agents for reinforcement learning, as well as software pipelines for quantum-assisted machine learning. Quantum tools for real-world optimisation problems will also be presented. The workshop will feature contributions from the DLR-QCI projects QCMobility, Klim-QML and Quant²AI.

‘Reinforcement learning’ involves using algorithms to search for constructive solutions, which requires the processing of large amounts of data – a process that is usually time-consuming, but which quantum algorithms can accelerate. The QLearning project is investigating how this can be achieved using low-error quantum processors and effective quantum algorithms.
